Great! My native language has the same proverb, and in English it's "to rub salt into the wound"

Oh I thought "to pour oil upon the fire" (which I read in L&S) was an idiom.
With a wound in French we have "retourner le couteau dans la plaie", but it doesn't mean exactly the same thing as the one with the fire; with the wound it's more like if you worsen someone's sadness about something by talking about it - for example...
Yes, a literal version exists. Mine is a variation upon the same idea.
Doesn't this rather mean "to be in agreement", while "to be in the same boat" means "to be in the same shit"?
