    ὡς δὲ ὁ φρουρῶν τὸ μαντεῖον Πύθων ὄφις ἐκώλυεν αὐτὸν παρελθεῖν ἐπὶ τὸ χάσμα,

    ἐπὶ it's usually followed by a genitive or a dative so why is τὸ χάσμα in accusative?
