    I was wondering about this after seeing Austin's note in his Aeneid 1 commentary:

    "not our 'pale,' but a yellowish off-colour, the result of sickliness or disease or, as here, decomposition"

    So would something like "sallow" be a better word to use, or is just "pale" fine?

    I do find it funny that on the very next page, he refers to Sychaeus (whose pallida ora were the focus of the above note) as "the pale murdered ghost".
