Can anyone help with 'terrae latae spadicis' please?

I can see that terrae latae is wide land, but cannot find spadicis. The only word I can find with that stem has something to do with eunuchs!

spadix, spadicis (m or c; authorities differ) can mean:

    1. a broken-off palm branch.

    2. something that is chestnut-brown.

    3. an obscure type of musical instrument.

(I am not making this up). I suppose your phrase might mean "The wide brown lands". But can you give us a little more context?

    No longer stumped!

What a gem you are, Iynx! Australia is often called 'The wide brown land', so that must be it. I think I'd better get a more comprehensive dictionary...
