Je ne sais quoi. In my limited franco-perspective and by generalization, there's something that permeates from the french through their culture, language and mannerisms. Almost like nonchalance.

I don't care for the way Spanish sounds, by and large, but when it is sung by this man, it becomes the language qua divina dicuntur.
Cuban is a particularly sultry dialect. Reduction of 's' preceding a resonant to a breath (a process found also in Latin), nasalization of monosyllables like con (as in Latin), the approximant 'r' made more lateral at 0:55 (de mi pequeña labor).

Wow, holy shit! I didn't know the Verve was capable of that, all I'd ever heard was that 'meme' song where he's lookin' like a bloodless vampire version of The Fonz. You know the one.
Not too sure how The Verve were received across the pond but they were highly regarded over here. McCabe's pedal effects and minimal guitarmanship is in a league of its own. He's probably the most original musician to come out of the early to mid-90s.
