I don't know how to translate this sentence, because the "causa aquae"

I mean, the way I would understand it at first sight would be "In the first night, nobody left the camp to get water (literally "because of water")... but I'm not sure what the context is.

I should be a bit more precise: egreditur is present tense, so it should be "nobody leaves" ...
