Hi there,

Very quick question. I would love to know what the phrase

"above us only sky"

is in Latin?

Many thanks,
RLM.

This is actually more interesting than one would think.

There are two straightforward translations, the difference being in only the first word: super/supra nos modo caelum. If you are using this quote to mean what John Lennon did in his song "Imagine", the context implies a double meaning for "above": physically above and more abstractly "with authority over". This I think argues for supra, so my choice is supra nos modo caelum.

Hi Cato,

Very interesting. Thanks very much for your help. BTW I was intending to use the "John Lennon" context of the phrase.

Thanks again,
Rob.
