Fuerunt or Fuerent?

I'm having a small dilemma.

The phrase "Ubi sunt qui ante nos" ends in a word that is spelled "fuerent", or sometimes "fuerunt". Which is correct?

Thank you, very much.

fuerunt is the "official" version. Sometimes Roman authors would use very unusual forms of Latin verbs, so 'fuerent' may be right too.
I am not sure about 'fuerent' though, so don't call me on it, should the occasion arise.

Are you a Latin student?
