I am also wondering if I would have to use the correct genitive neuter forms of proximi and vivi with animalis in addition to proximae vivae which only agree with the singular feminine genitive plantae?

Aetas rather than annus perhaps. As for planta, L&S says that this can mean "sprout", "shoot" etc. - "(but not used in the general sense of a plant, for which, in class. Lat.: “res quae gignitur e terrā, etc.," I don't know about later botanical uses of the word.

Remember to use the plural imperative if appropriate.
