Latin name - Timothy

Salve!

I looked up my first name(Timothy) in a latin translator and this is what it gave me:
fear, dread, alarm, object causing fear

Is that a good translation? Is my first name really Latin in origin? :puzzle:

Gratias et vale!

I don't see why a Latin translator should be able to translate a personal name...but the tim- stem does have to do with fear.

For a better etymology of your personal name, look up baby name lists online; you may have to dig a bit, but there are plenty of sites out there that give name meanings and origins.

As I understand it, Timothy is derived from Greek for "honoring God."
