The feminine is for an appointed day as in a day set for doing a specific thing. I don't think the day on which someone was born qualifies. It seems to me the writer was just being random here. After all, he makes the same day masculine shortly after (dies ille vertatur in tenebras etc.).

A better case could be made for the dies irae, since this is a day set (in God's plan, even if the exact date is unknown to everyone else) for a trial. Given the period it was written, though, it could be just chance.
