Lisa Fagin Davis (Post #10) should do as this maths professor did:
In the days before Andrew Wiles proved Fermat's last theorem, many professional mathematicians were working on it, and not a few enthusiastic amateurs. One professor complained to another that he couldn't get his own work done because cranks would send him their "proof" and he would have to spend time unpicking it. The other professor replied, "Oh I just tell them I'm not qualified to comment on their proof, but I know a man who is; and then I send them the name and address of the last crank who wrote to me!"
