It's a complicated way of saying that even distant places were affected by the Paethon catastrophe.

Back in the day they did say "crib sheet" in the USA, although I think "cheat sheet" was more common.

I found another crib (I wouldn't have been able to understand this verse without one; Google books) that has a slightly different interpretation:

"Nor do rivers having obtained by lot distant banks; a periphrasis for wide rivers."

Which would mean that the flames can even jump over wide rivers.

Oh ... that's a good point. It can also mean "very broad rivers".
