Latin Story: Eurōpa est puella. Eurōpa in insulā vivēbat

I think it was "cum", manually censored.

Yes that makes more sense.

I think that's correct. The same query has been posted here but with all occurrences of cum replaced by asterisks. I can't believe the OP thought we would be offended by a Latin word. Does Yahoo Answers perform this prudery automatically? Was it posted there first and then copied from there and pasted in here with one of the redactions missed?

Yes, that is probably why. I really don't see the point of censuring even the english cum, though. It doesn't really matter what word you use, if you put it in context.

So, Yahoo! would call people with great honours in their degrees magna *** laude. That explains why some universities simply use "with great honours" instead, just to prevent people like :kirby: from being offended, even if no offence is meant.

The same problem arises with the Latin third person plural present indicative di****, conjugated from dico, dicere, since it contains a very strong English profanity.

Or the ending of imperfect, 3rd person singular.
Faciebat pronounced in Czech Republic with classic pronounciation "Fucki-jebat" (means likea ... english "f***" taken to czech english by teengers, and "jebat" means like the same in vulgar Czech.. and also Polish and Russian) Viz. "Zajebisti"

Same thing in Croatian - curva ("kurva" - "whore"), also with audieabam, faciebam etc, pronunciation resembles the same vulgar verb "jebati".

Why don't we change the name of the thread to "what nasty words in your native vocabulary can you find in latin"?
Also, f[i-long:1zx6zreq][/i-long:1zx6zreq]te, which in Norwegian means the same as the **** of S****horpe

I didn't see anything past Bitmap's post until now. It's funny how that took off...

Scrabulista - all you did was ask what a word was. No apology necessary ;)

haha, I love this discussion. By the way, what is S*****horpe?

The word huius evokes giggles too. I never thought about the imperfect endings; that's hilarious! :hysteric:

There's also fac mi curva olera in a Polish joke of Latin. The last two are swear words in Polish.

No wonder Latin has been removed from public curriculum in many countries.

Then you may want to look at this country lane in the English Midlands, and this village in Austria.
Teehee :)

Re Butt Hole Road, it seems that its residents don't find it amusing:
