ne se expelleret

This line from the Vulgate (Mk 5:10) has stumped me:
Et deprecabatur eum multum, ne se expelleret extra regionem.
The translation is, of course, "And he beseeched him greatly, lest he [Jesus] expel them [the demons] from the region."

But if the subject of "expelleret" is Jesus, why is "se" used rather than "eos"?

Because it refers to the demons who are begging. eos would mean they were referring to other demons.
