Oppressuri illam gentem liberam viros magnae sapientiae delere coeperunt.
I'm having a hard time grasping Latin participles, so I thought about asking you the translation for this one and maybe add a short explanation about why there isn't a present passive participle and perfect active participle?

I would translate the future participle with a final clause here:

In order to oppress that free people, they began to kill men of great intelligence.

and maybe add a short explanation about why there isn't a present passive participle and perfect active participle?

They just don't exist in Latin. I suppose the way Latin phrased a lot of its idiomatic expressions just made them redundant over time.
