Can anyone explain the grammar of this to me? Why is mori in the infinitive?

Yeah, it's a really strange use of the historical infinitive, probably colloquial. Just like "Mihi anima in naso esse; stabam tanquam mortuus." from a few sentences ago. That one's also a bit odd because esse is rarely found in the hist. inf. and the next verb is immediately back to a finite verb form.
