Can someone please translate this for me? I have also seen it as "The function of man is to live, not to exist", eliminating "proper" - I like "proper" in there but realize it may not translate to latin. Any help as always would be MUCH appreciated. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this crazy time!

You're welcome. Proprium corresponds to "proper". Since there's an English version with the word "proper" and one without it, I thought I'd give both options in Latin too. So you can include that word or leave it out, as you like.

Shorter (i.e. without malo = I choose rather; I prefer):
