Uploading mp4s

This weekend, I tried to upload a movie clip here
However, it wouldn't let me upload my film because it was in mp4 format, so I had to convert it before being able to upload.

Is there a reason why files in mp4 format cannot be uploaded? If not, would it entail a lot of technical difficulty to enable mp4 uploads?

Hard to say, Nikolaos will probably know the answer, but, personally, I upload movies exclusively to Youtube and when I don't want the video to appear in the search, I set it as "unlisted" (therefore only accessible via the link), but I realize that's not 'solving' the problem, but it provides an alternative solution

I briefly considered putting it on Youtube ... maybe I'll just do that next time.
