A Latin transcription was found scrawled in an old notebook. Can someone translate it for me?

"ut scio patris existiti sicut filius."
My best idea of what they were trying to write is: "to know the father, become like the son." which is referenced in English previously in the notebook.

It looks like it might have been intended to mean that, but then it would have been written by someone who didn't know Latin. It looks strangely like what a machine translator could have spewed.

That is very likely, Pacifica. Out of curiosity, what would the correct translation be?
