while standing

I want to make sure I am using the participle correctly. I want to say something like "laugh while standing" (TPR stuff) would the while standing part be dum stans?

No. It would be either stans alone or dum + the appropriately conjuagted verb (dum sto, dum stas, etc., depending on the person).

What's the complete sentence/context?

OK. Then just keep in mind that the number of stans would need adapting if you were addressing several students at a time.

Ride stans = "laugh while standing", addressing one person.
Ridete stantes = "laugh while standing", addressing a group.
