Ablativus absolutus

I have been thinking about the Latin adverbial construction Ablativus absolutus. My conclusion is that the most common function is to show a general time relationship or temporality. Is there a reason why this is the most common function?

The most common is some sort of "attendant circumstance", wouldn't you rather say? - from the "manner"-function of the ablative.
