I just started learning Ancient Greek independently with some guidance from my Latin teachers. A somewhat trivial thing kept frustrating me, that is, my name. In Latin class, our praenomen was assigned on the eighth day but we get to do some research and decide upon a nomen and cognomen. (I was given the praenomen Augusta and decided to shamelessly steal my nomen and cognomen from Maecenas.)

However, as I'm not formally enrolled in an Ancient Greek class, I still have no idea how names work in Ancient Greece. Do people just have one name, and then identify eachother by name and patronymics?
