This 'thing' you found - what do you think it is? A coin? A button? a brooch? a boss from a book or shield? A medal? A tiny flying saucer? Okay, the last one isn't likely (at least, they weren't successful aliens, if their ship could be found by some Joe with a metal-detector).
Is it the size and shape of a coin? Does it have a face, or some building? Is there a cross? If so, you need to track down a book or collector of ancient coins, for they used a lot of abbreviations.
In the ancient world, coins were valued for their actual metal value, so people were much less motivated to exchange foreign coins into local currency. So, it may not be Latin after all. Here's my only clue for you: IASVI just might be 'Iesui', or 'for Jesus' (if you think of 'Iesus' as a 4th-declension name); so *maybe* it's some language of the Middle East. But my money is on Latin with abbreviations.
Cheers.
Kirk
PS - is it gold? (visions of old 'Sinbad' movies)
