PhD? That's the highest, dazzlingest* academic title, isn't it?

*The context deserved a fancy superlative.

The mostest highest.

Also, it seems his undergrad was in science, his master's was in philosophy, and his Ph.D. was in...God knows what?

Not that I of all people sneer at someone doing many varied degrees, lol. But it doesn't say much for his background as a linguistics specialist.

Seems Bristol has pulled their official announcement. From Google:

May: Voynich manuscript | News | University of Bristol

https://www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2018/may/voynich-manuscript.html

1 day ago - Although the purpose and meaning of the manuscript had eluded scholars for over a century, it took Research Associate Dr. Gerard Cheshire ...
Which, if you follow the link, leads to "Page Not Found".
So, they eventually noticed it was nonsense. There is hope yet.

Now I feel bad for Cheshire, if he was serious about it. He's going to be shamed worldwide. I hope I never get so delusional.... Though if I do (quod di averruncent) academia, due to my lack of titles, will not take it seriously even temporarily, so I'll be spared mediatic shame. Titlelessness has its advantages. :p

My shame would remain in some obscure internet corners, as it has before, though my shame has never been so massive as that — unless I'm being delusional?!

I think he must have been, given those posts from 2017. Yes, someone might create a hoax and try to get it published, but would they try steadily for a year and a half?

I hope I never get so delusional....
I suppose we're all at risk of it in our own way. Catullus has some words of wisdom on the subject:

XXII

Suffenus iste, Vare, quem probe nosti,
homo est venustus et dicax et urbanus,
idemque longe plurimos facit versus.
puto esse ego illi milia aut decem aut plura
perscripta, nec sic ut fit in palimpsesto
relata: cartae regiae, novi libri,
novi umbilici, lora rubra membranae,
tam gaudet in se tamque se ipse miratur.
nimirum idem omnes fallimur, neque est quisquam
quem non in aliqua re videre Suffenum
possis. suus cuique attributus est error;
sed non videmus manticae quod in tergo est.
