Class (as in group of students)

What is the best word for a class of students, not a grade level.
I would like to avoid generalizing with discipulī and I would also like to avoid saying both discipulī et discipulae.

Classis is tempting, although I realize it might not be the cognate I think it is.

Any ideas?
